One thing you can say about winter in Wisconsin is that it gives you time to get around to some of those indoor projects that you've been neglecting – like re-doing a website.  If you've visited our site before, it's pretty obvious that we've been doing some remodeling.  As of right now – on the day of the first post on our new web log – we're still in the "beta" stage. That means that we're just getting started and we haven't worked out all the bugs yet.

So far, we haven't changed the content of the site very much.  Before we could do that, we needed to get more control over it than we had before.  It's a remarkable thing, but websites really have become a Do-It-Yourself type project.  Now, instead of having to rely on a web consultant to do mysterious technical stuff to create and revise webpages, our Historical Society staff and volunteers can do pretty much anything we need with drag-and-drop simplicity.

Our plans include such things as making a lot more of our photographs and documents available to researchers on line, and providing a convenient e-commerce interface permitting you to purchase our "museum store" items from the comfort of your home with the ease of a credit card.

Another important reason for revising our site is that it now conforms much better to mobile devices like cell phones.  Among other things, we hope to take advantage of that by using GPS technology to make finding and learning about historic sites a little easier.

So keep an eye on us and let us know how we're doing.  This blog is interactive, which means you can post comments right here (and we hope you will).
